 HOW WE CAN HELP

There are varied types of support we can provide, all of which, apart from befriending support, is delivered by highly trained, paid staff :-

Respite Support for Carers – this is our core service aimed at alleviating carer stress by enabling carers to get a break. The majority of this service is funded by Fife Health & Social Care Integrations Partnership. In addition, grants and donations from a variety of sources help to increase our available funds.

Private Purchase – you may purchase support from us. This can be respite or it can be other types of support you need. Some examples are listed below.

Self Directed Support including Direct Payments – if you have been allocated Self Directed Support, we can deliver your support plan to help you achieve your chosen outcomes. You can download a leaflet with more information about this service by clicking below to download the leaflet

There is no waiting list for Private Purchase and Self Directed Supported Services.

The type of help we can give could include:
  • Personal care
  • Mobility and person handling activities
  • Medication
  • Meal and food preparation
  • Procedures such as peg feeding and emptying catheter bags
  • Supporting positive behaviour strategies
  • Memory loss and confusion
  • Palliative care
  • Light household tasks
  • Shopping
  • Support service user on social outings
  • Relieving loneliness and isolation
Or we can support you to achieve other outcomes you want.

When you contact us we will ask you a little about yourself. We will arrange a suitable time to visit you at home to assess your needs. It is not always necessary to meet the Service User at this point as it is you, the carer, whose needs we will be talking about.

If Crossroads is able to offer help, you will be asked to suggest suitable days and times to have a service. Every effort will be made to meet your request, if resources are available.
Following discussion of the care needs of the Service User, a Support Worker will be chosen to help you and you will meet her before the service starts. You will be asked to demonstrate any equipment used by the Service User and to explain how you want your relative/friend or yourself to be cared for. The frequency of visits will also be agreed.
The service will be reviewed at agreed intervals. However, if you have any concerns about the staff or the service, you are encouraged to contact the Manager or Coordinator. The organisation also operates a Comments and Complaints procedure. The Board of Management reserve the right, in some circumstances, to discontinue the service.

If you are interested in receiving support yourself or would like to refer someone else, please contact us on either:

Befriending Service

Many people in Fife are affected by social isolation and loneliness,  which over and above being an emotional experience, can adversely impact on a person's physical and mental health. Crossroads recruits, trains and matches volunteers to act as Befrienders, offering time to isolated and lonely people of all ages across Central and North East Fife, which in turn helps to alleviate the affects of this problem. The Befrienders provide vital contact for a person, a link to the outside world and can act as a gateway for other services and valuable support. They can support someone to build confidence and participate in a local community activity or group, or indeed, assist that person to pass on their skills and talents to others.

If you feel you would benefit from the support of a Volunteer Befriender, or you are an individual over 16 years old and you are interested in volunteering, please contact Marie Lindsey, Befriending Coordinator on 01592 630253 or email marie@crossroadsg.co.uk
