Assistant Befriending Co-ordinator
Job Description
 
Post:                                   16 hours per week
Days:                                 Wednesday-Friday
Location:                         Glenrothes – requires travel within Fife
Salary:                              £13/hour
Responsible to:          Befriending Co-ordinator/Service Manager
 
Job Offer and Employment is subject to satisfactory references, PVG Membership (Protection of Vulnerable Groups), and right to work checks.
 
Purpose of the Job

  • To support the development, promotion and delivery of the Befriending Service
  • To provide person centred support for adults to help improve their wellbeing, confidence and independence and reduce the negative effects of social isolation and loneliness
  • To assist with training and support of volunteers to enable them to build positive relationships with befriendees
 
Overview of Role
 
Assist in the management of referrals to the service, assessment of prospective befriendees, matching with a suitable Volunteer Befriender, introduction between parties and set up of regular visits, together with ongoing review.  Help to develop, train and support a team of volunteers, providing them with appropriate advice and guidance for their role, including holding regular supervision and review sessions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Take referrals for the Befriending service from professionals, family members, other agencies or prospective clients.
  • Undertake a home visit to assess the person’s eligibility/suitability for the befriending service.
  • Liaise with Adult Social Work Teams, GP practices, Social Prescribers and other external organisations supporting individuals as appropriate.
  • Match Befriendees with an appropriate Befriender for regular visits.
  • Review the match regularly to ensure befriendee is continuing to benefit from the service and that boundaries are being adhered to.
  • Refer, signpost or move on referrals and befriendees to other external services and activities, as appropriate.
  • Assist in the training and support of a team of volunteers, providing them with appropriate advice and guidance for their role including confidentiality, maintaining boundaries, having positive conversations and recognising and reporting any adult support & protection concerns. 
  • Assist with development and presentation of training sessions for volunteers and produce and distribute appropriate training materials to support the sessions.
  • Help to carry out regular individual and group supervision and review sessions with volunteers to help develop their skills, to resolve, and reflect on and issues that arise as part of their volunteering role.
  • Maintain accurate records on the databases and group registers and ensure that data, contacts and outcomes are recorded in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with collating, monitoring and preparing statistical data for monitoring and funder reports
  • Interview befriendees and volunteers to collect their stories about the difference the service has made.
  • Together with colleagues, continue to develop and embed robust processes to ensure the services are run efficiently and effectively.
  • Represent Crossroads Fife in a professional manner at both internal and external activities to promote our organisation.
  • Carry out all other duties as deemed reasonably appropriate by management.

VACANCY – PART TIME CO-ORDINATOR Salary: £16.71 per hour 16 hours per week (Wednesday & Thursday 09:00 – 15:00 Friday 09:00 – 13:00)

Office based in Glenrothes – covering the full Fife Area, you will join a friendly team providing regular respite for carers of people of all ages and disabilities. We are looking for someone with excellent communication and organisational skills. Assessment and care planning experience are also required as well as an understanding and interest in carers issues. An SVQ 4 in Health and Social Care, or similar, is desirable. A clean driving licence and use of car is essential.

 Crossroads Fife is looking to recruit innovative, enthusiastic people to expand on skills and expertise of our Management Committee.

Crossroads Fife is one of the leading providers of home based respite care for Carers. We offer this short breaks service to people who care for someone of any age and any disability. The service is provided by trained, paid staff in the service user’s home or we take service users out throughout the Fife area on a day and time which suits them. We are also a registered provider of Self Directed Support and Purchased Care.

Crossroads Fife has charitable status and is led by an experienced Board who have overall responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of the organisation’s work.  We are looking for individuals who possess knowledge, skills and experience of human resources, business, charity work with entrepreneurial skills or have an understanding of the caring role. The Board meet every 2 months in the evening.

Job Description
We are currently looking for highly motivated caring individual to join our well established and professional team of Support Workers.  Your role would primarily be supporting our younger Service Users with any illness and/or disability in their own home and in accessing their local community. You will have the opportunity to make a difference to families lives whilst offering care and providing their family Carer with a short break.

  • It is preferred that candidates hold or are working towards either their SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) or HNC Childhood Practice or equivalent.

Volunteer Befrienders Required

​Many people in Fife are affected by social isolation and loneliness for various reasons, which has a negative impact on their physical and mental health.  Volunteer Befrienders can help alleviate these adverse affects by offering social support which helps build stronger social connections, improves confidence and well-being - not just for them but also for yourself!

We recruit, train and match Volunteer Befrienders who  provide meaningful social connection with local befriendees in Central Fife, Levenmouth and North East Fife.  We provide ongoing support and development and reimburse mileage expenses. 

Just a hour of so of your spare time can make a massive difference to someone's life as well as your own.  You can befriend someone by phone, home visit , support someone to access community activities or help out at a group.
